School avoidance is a common concern among our clients. At Morningstar Behavioral Services, our treatment of school avoidance begins with a functional behavior assessment of the school avoidance behavior, which includes an assessment of psychoeducational variables and in-home observations.

We contract with schools to provide applied behavior analytic (ABA therapy/BCBA services) services.  We provide clinical support that is both ethical and based firmly in the science of applied behavior analysis to help your team build a plan of support.

As school psychologists and BCBAs we have extensive experience solving school-related behavioral problems. These problems often intersect with a child's home life in significant ways. We work collaboratively with families and schools to develop treatment plans.  We complete comprehensive assessments that may involve in-home assessment and training. 

Behavioral problems we commonly support: 

• School refusal
• Classroom avoidance
• Aggressive and/or disruptive behavior
• Toilet training
• Speech refusal/ low rate of speech (not language disorders but elective speech refusal)
• Refusals/avoidance of particular stimuli (e.g. refusal to ride bus, refusal to use public restrooms, bugs at recess, refusing to brush teeth/get hair cut/ wear certain textures)
• Skill acquisition for skills such as shoe tying and other activities of daily living
• Organizational skills (planning, work initiation and completion, organization of school and homework)

• Behavioral Consultation with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst 
• Functional Behavior Assessments
• Behavior Intervention Plan development
• Training and ongoing support/coaching for school staff 
• Parent training
• In-home assessments 
• Professional development on FBAs, BIPs, classroom management, problem behavior, data collection and analysis for behavioral concerns.

We  work with school districts who are in need of licensed school psychologists to  complete comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations. We can assist with remote meeting facilitation and coordination as well.

We evaluate in the following domains:

• Autism (ADOS-2, ADI, GARS, ASRS, etc)
• Functional behavior assessment and behavior intervention plan development by a BCBA
