ABA Therapy: What Does an ABA Therapist Do?

ABA therapists work with families to improve challenging behavior at home, in school and in community settings.

We specialize in behaviors that impact school functioning, educational success and school inclusion such as school avoidance, toilet training, organization, homework completion and behavioral approaches to education and skill acquisition.   As both school psychologists and BCBA's, we have unique training and experience in behavioral problem solving for school related concerns.

We begin with consultation to determine if ABA services are right for you. If so, we proceed with a comprehensive assessment which guides the development of a treatment plan. While implementing the plan, we gather data on the relevant behavior(s) to assess the effectiveness of the treatment plan.  Ongoing support may be in-home, remote or a combination.  We believe parent support and training are essential.

We specialize in treating common behavioral problems that occur in children with and without disabilities.

  • School refusal
  • Classroom avoidance
  • Behavioral sleep consultation and programming for children
  • Aggressive and/or disruptive behavior
  • Toilet training
  • Speech refusal/ low rate of speech (not language disorders but elective speech refusal)
  • Refusals/avoidance of particular stimuli (e.g. refusal to ride bus, refusal to use public restrooms, bugs at recess, refusing to brush teeth/get hair cut/ wear certain textures)
  • Skill acquisition for skills such as shoe tying and other activities of daily living
  • Organizational and executive functioning skills  (planning, work initiation and completion, organization of school and homework)
